Our Steam Train Adventure Picture the scene, It was hot and the year was 1950. Dressed up to the nines, we all look rather nifty. As we headed to the station we did not have a plan. And as we all boarded the station we resembled a mighty clan. We piled into the station, pails and spades and games galore. There were so many of us, we could hardly shut the door. Granny had her bag stuffed with cakes and big cheese pieces. There were brothers, sisters, Cousins to and also a few wee nieces. And as the train puffed along, it billowed out thick smoke. The ticket collector came along and he was a great big bloke. You wore your safari suit, my dress was coloured yellow. And the excitement was electric, on our way to Portobello. The train soon came to a halt, we were at our station. So excited we were, to have reached our destination. We could smell the sea air, and it was within our reach. And around the next corner, we were all stood on the beach. We paddled in the sea, we made castles in the sand. Watched punch and Judy in his brightly coloured stand. We ate fish and chips, and candy floss and some more treats. And rounded off the day with a great big bag of sweets. 70 years have passed, and we could not have asked for more. You were my uncle, I was two and you were four. So Billy this is the reason I will not say goodbye. We will meet again someday, in that “Steam Train in the Sky”. You will be forever in our hearts Loving niece Nancy and Husband Andy Xx
